Day 6: Run, Forrest, Run-#SOL17

Let me just put out the disclaimer that I have never been a distance runner.  In my middle school days, I was a sprinter and loved my 100m or 200m dashes.  I silently cheered that I never had to go the distance, so to speak.  Fast forward to my adult years, after the birth of our oldest, I started running. I had always been active and enjoyed working out, but never for the sake of just running.  I found running gave me time without any distractions as well as time for clarity and reflection.

Today, this self-taught runner still craves that distraction free time that running provides.  Sometimes, after a long day, there is nothing better than putting on a pair of running shoes, cranking up my favorite tunes, and hitting the pavement.  This self-taught runner is also training to run a half marathon in just a couple months.  I have run a handful of different courses over the past 7 or 8 years, but there is something about clicking that submit button when making the commitment to sign up for a race that is so exciting every time.  I love setting a goal and then making a plan to reach that goal in hopes that the process will be just as rewarding and satisfying as the final race (although, I admit, finishing that 13.1 is pretty awesome).

Do some think running for "fun" is crazy? Sure, I was one of them.  However, don't knock it until you try it...you might just surprise yourself with what you are capable of and how much you actually enjoy it.  I am glad I did.

  5. I think that I am still in the beginning of this slice...running and my knee are just not friends. I appreciate how passionate you are about running for yourself, and that message is clear in your Slice:)
