Day 7: Dance Parties-#SOL17

We have a larger than most family.  There are six of us in our household, with four children under the age of 8 (including 3-year-old twins). While that may want to make some run for the hills, we embrace our family and all the loudness (and sometimes craziness) that comes with it.  We always joke that our normal is everyone else's chaos.

Last night, when it was time for the littles to get ready for bed, I realized it was taking a long time to just brush teeth and put on pajamas.  Suddenly, I could hear the beat of music along with what sounded like a heard of elephants above my head.  Naturally, it was time to investigate just what in the world was taking place upstairs, even though it was clearly not involving our normal bedtime routine.

By the time I was at the top of the stairs, the music was borderline blaring; yet, you couldn't mistake the sound of laughter and giggles.  Walking into my daughter's bedroom, it took everything in my power as a mother to not burst out laughing and disrupt what was taking place in front of me.  My children had raided each other's closets, put on the wackiest of clothes, and were engaged in a full-fledged dance party.  The laughter swirled around me while some mighty fine dance moves were making their appearance.  Seeing the joy on the faces of my children made my night, and yes, I admit, I even joined in for a few songs after they "caught" me watching (if you can't beat them, join them, right?!).  So while bedtime may have been slightly delayed last night, these are the moments to cherish, crazy dance moves and all.

  1. What a wonderful moment to stumble across! Sometimes, you just have to let them have fun, even if it means taking away a few extra minutes of sleep!

  4. This. Is. Awesome. But I don't know that I would have jumped in and danced along! So bravo, Momma, for living in the moment and enjoying the dance party.
